Fall Wedding Theme Inspiration

 In Style Alert

Autumn inspiration for your seasonal wedding planning.

Autumn is a wonderful time of year for a warm and intimate wedding reception. Many of our brides and grooms enjoy the fall so much they set their wedding date at the heart of the season and design their wedding theme to match it.

By fall, most guests are no longer focused on making plans to get away as during the summer, or booked with weekend activities. As the weather cools, thoughts have turned to the coming holidays and returning home to spend time with family.  With a chill in the air, the more lush fashions, and the changing colors all around, it is a romantic time of year, ideal for a fall wedding.

At our NJ wedding venues we’ve hosted many couples who’ve put together wonderfully creative wedding themes with autumn as the inspiration. Some who’ve quite literally brought the look of fall inside and others who’ve simply used it as a starting point for their imagination.

The wonderful fall foliage that surrounds our outdoor wedding venues and the surrounding grounds with rich hues of amber, cranberry, and gold give an instant suggestion as to the color palette possibilities easily recognizable as being of the season. Pair your favorite of this wide range of deep, intense colors with a cooler, more muted complimentary color of wheat, champagne, slate, or even dark woods or chocolate.

Take advantage of the harvest season and be literal with your use of the ephemera of the fall. You can incorporate everything from shocks of wheat and corn to pumpkins, gourds, cornucopias, and acorns into your table decorations. Real or simulated pressed leaves can accent anything from invitations to table cards.

Continue your fall wedding theme with wedding flowers such as mums, orange ranuculus, daisies, golden black-eyed Susans, red roses and dahlias, yellow and orange calla lilies, and even purple trachelium. When incorporating these flowers into your wedding centerpieces, consider adding height with accents of wheat, branches, or stalks with berries.

For your fall wedding gown, consider a wedding dress that gives a slightly warmer feel, perhaps an off-white or cream, that is, if you’re not set on having a pure white wedding dress. Steer more toward accents of gold and beading instead of more showy embellishments or diamond-like appliqué. This doesn’t mean you have to give up on the look of an ornate dress. You can achieve a wonderfully elegant and luxurious look with the use of material that is also ideal for the season such as brocade, a jacquard-woven fabric with raised designs.  For fall bridesmaid dresses, the same seasonal color palette from golds to plumbs can apply. Just be sure if you’re going with a lighter fabric or a less covering cut to incorporate a pashmina or other cover-up, as the temperature in autumn is often unpredictable.

Whether you take your cue from the colors of nature, the chill in the air, or the special memories the season has for you, there are endless possibilities for letting autumn inspire a cozy and romantic fall wedding.
