The Royal Proposal
Prince Harry accounts to the press on numerous occasions that he fell in love “so incredibly quickly.” The two knew they were meant to spend the rest of their lives together, but Harry decided to take a more casual path to the proposal. Avoiding the constant media attention, the couple opted for a quiet night in their Harry’s cottage at Kensington Palace. Never one for glitz and glam, Harry popped the question as the two enjoyed dinner and the rest is history.
The Royal Invitations
The Royal Wedding invitations follow many years of royal tradition. Printed by Barnard Westwood, these sophisticated eggshell-colored invitations feature black and burnished gold script with the name and location of the special day. The invitation also features the Three-Feathered Badge of the Prince of Wales printed in gold ink. This badge is on the top center of the invitation to display its significance.
The Royal Guest List
The royal couple wanted to keep the celebration personal, so only 600 of the couple’s closest friends and family were invited. With such a prominent event, there are bound to be spectators, so the couple decided to open the grounds of Windsor Castle to 2,460 guests for them to watch from the outside. They invited hundreds of schoolchildren, charity works, Windsor locals and people employed by the royal family to join the guest list. Notables who attended the wedding include Priyanka Chopra, Serena Williams, Jessica Mulroney, Prince William, Queen Elizabeth II, Victoria & David Beckham, and Elton John.
Best Man and Maid of Honor
It comes as no surprise to us that Prince Harry’s best man was his brother, Prince William, as Harry was William’s best man back in 2011. Markle, however, chose the unconventional route of having no maid of honor as she did not want to choose between her tight-knit group of friends.
The Royal Rings
Prince Harry went above and beyond when it came to Meghan’s ring. The ring, which he designed himself, features a pair of diamonds from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection. Right in the middle of jewels is a center stone from Botswana, where Harry and Meghan took their first big trip together as a couple.
The Royal Ceremony
The elegant marriage of Harry and Megan took place in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle at noon. The celebration at the Chapel, which holds approximately 800, included music, flowers, decorations, and a reception. It should come as no surprise that this event took months of precise planning. The happy couple became the 16th royal couple to celebrate their marriage at Windsor Castle since 1863.
